The Lake Roosevelt Raiders defeated a worthy competitor from the Central Washington 2B league Friday, solidifying the Raiders' status as league champs.
Even if the Raiders were to lose to Brewster on Friday, resulting in a three-way tie between LR, Brewster, and Tonasket, the Raiders hold the tie-breaker, Head Coach Tim Rasmussen said.
The Raiders executed a solid win against the Tonasket Tigers Oct. 25, defeating them 37-6.
Both teams had a win-loss record of 2-0 in the league, 5-1 overall going into the game, but LR's win put them at the top of the league at 3-0 in the league, 6-1 overall.
In the first quarter, following a Tonasket fumble recovered by the Raiders, quarterback Hunter Whitelaw kept the ball, running to the six-yard line. That led to a Cameron St. Pierre touchdown run, and a successful two-point conversion attempt put the Raiders up 8-0.
In the second quarter, the Raider defense pressured the Tonasket quarterback Hunter Thomas to throw an interception caught by Raider Tyson Nicholson.
That led to a 25-yard touchdown pass to St. Pierre, who ran for most of those yards after the initial catch, putting the Raiders up 14-0 before the half.
In the second half, a Tonasket fumble caused by Raider Brit Egbert was taken by Raider Trevon Johnson on a 20-yard run to the endzone for another touchdown. A two-point conversion pass to Malachi Rasmussen put the Raiders up 22-0.
St. Pierre had a 10-yard run in the third quarter, and a successful extra-point attempt from Jaimen Schmidt put the Raiders up 29-0.
Devon Hobrecht went the distance in the fourth quarter, running 37 yards for a touchdown, and with a two-point conversion the Raiders went up 37-0.
The Tigers got on the board off an 85-yard touchdown return, and with no extra point, the game finished up 37-6, LR.
Leading the Raider defense were Johnson, who had 10 tackles and four sacks in the game on top of his fumble recovery for a touchdown; Bobcat Flowers, with 13 tackles and two sacks; and Tyler Jordon, with had eight tackles and a sack.
"We challenged our guys to go out and to just be physical and dominating," Head Coach Tim Rasmussen said, "and we did a great job of it. You could tell there was a difference on the field in physicality. That was a big win for us."
The Raiders play next against the Brewster Bears (2-1, 2-6) on Friday, Nov. 1, in Brewster, at 7 p.m.
The Raiders will finish on top of the league regardless of the results of that game.
