School board directors assigned positions

The Grand Coulee Dam School District Board of Directors took new assignments at their Jan. 27 meeting.

Director George LaPlace was appointed board chair. Director Carla Marconi was appointed vice chair, and Ken "Butch" Stanger was appointed legislative representative.

LaPlace, who has served on the board since 2015, replaces Rich Black as board chair. Black, still a director, has chaired the board since 2016.

Marconi has served on the board since 2007.

Newly elected Director Alex Tufts, who took his seat in December 2019, was not assigned to a position.

The directors voted unanimously to approve all the positions.

Stanger was also acknowledged for his 10 years on the school board, having taken his seat on the board in July of 2009.

"This is in recognition of 10 years of board service," Superintendent Paul Turner read from a certificate from the Washington School District Association. "With appreciation for your years of valuable service to the children of Washington state."

The room filled with applause for Stanger who expressed his gratitude for the recognition.

January was School Board Recognition Month in the state of Washington.
