Raider grapplers heading to State tourney

Raider wrestlers are state bound following a successful performance at regionals last weekend.

Ten out of 12 Raider wrestlers who competed at the regional tournament in Oroville on Saturday will be heading to the state Mat Classic XXXII at the Tacoma Dome Friday and Saturday.

"It went well," Head Coach Billy Monroe said about the 1B/2B Region 2 tournament. "We finished up second as a team behind the Tonasket Machine."

LR's 153 team points placed them second out of 12 teams, with Tonasket winning the event with 360.

"We qualified eight wrestlers and have two alternates," Monroe continued, "so out of the 12 wrestlers we had on Saturday, 10 of them are traveling to state."

Colton Jackson, wrestling at 106, and Myka Boyd (195) won their weight classes, making them regional champions; Sergio Galacia (182) Trevon Johnson (220) placed second; Julien Lopez (113), Teyton Flores (120), Tyler Palmer (160) and Joey Tynan (285) placed third; and Landon Krohn (138) and Kaiden Palmer (152) placed fourth.

"Very excited about state this week," Monroe said. "Looking at the brackets that were released [Monday], I believe that every single one of our guys has a shot to medal at state (top 6)."
