Jess, shut up!
As we look around during this time, we can see a lot of negativity. It can be heavy and burdensome to carry on with our lives when it appears the turmoil of the world is ripping apart society. It can be hard to go into your day without an attack or bout of uncertainty that can lead to depression or panic like clouds surrounding us. So when a spark of positivity shines bright, it is important grasp it and blow it into a flame.
Last Saturday I found myself sitting under the awning at North Dam Park with a group of people hoping for change. In fact, they were praying for it. Some of the prayers were personal and some were for the nation and world. I mention this because of the spark started underneath the covering can erupt into a wildfire of hope, love and joy.
Those gathered were from a vast and wide variety of life experiences. A man just a few years short of 100 years of age, a former waitress, a current waitress, a writer, daycare provider, a widow, a pastor, and others all coming together for a sign of unity and hope. They will continue meeting on Saturdays and fanning the flames of positivity.
It continued as I sat in my yard and watched a house wren build three different nests in three different locations. The goal was to attract a mate. The male quickly and vigorously collected twigs, string, fur, leaves and cobwebs and knitted together the three environments as the female watched and either approved or disapproved. (I am not certain and must brush up on my wren lingo to be certain.) Eventually the female picked the location for their home for the season, and they both entered. The amazing thing is this: Two other male wrens took over the other two nests and started finishing what the other had started. Soon, they had attracted females of their own.
Sometimes what one person starts, another can finish and find success. The hard work of others can be to our benefit in the right situation. We need to be looking for those positive glimmers of light in our days. Sometimes we need to fan those sparks and see what happens.
With these turbulent times swirling around us, we need to seek out and covet the positivity. Surround ourselves with it like a cape that we can snuggle into. Hide under the wings and be protected by it, shielded by it. Not out of ignorance but out of love. Change is occurring, it always is, but are we embracing the things or thing that is constantly consistent.
We can find the positivity. We just need to open up our eyes and heart for the sign. It could be in a group of like-minded individuals who know we need to come into unity for each other and do like the good book tells us and pray for one another. Or it might be found in a tiny little bird with a big song that works diligently for what it wants. Or is the positivity in the future? In the soon-to-hatch eggs that will bring life. Those eggs could be in the form of tiny little lives surrounded by a thin shell, or they could be in the tiny little prayers that pack a big punch for the future generations.
Where are you finding your hope for positivity? What are you hatching? How are you preparing your future? Are you reading the signs or are you missing the direction? Let’s not miss the warning or the direction signs. I’m Jess saying.
