Knodell should be re-elected as judge

Ballots are coming soon. In 10 years of working for John Knodell, I was able to observe a true professional, a master of the art, craft and science of a trial lawyer, brilliant not just at interpreting the law and applying the facts and evidence, but also in advocating for crime victims at trial, but fair to ensure that the accused’s rights were protected. John was also a brilliant defense attorney, having represented many in Grant County; that is why he could always look at both sides, the strengths and weaknesses of a case, and make the tough calls on the cases to prosecute and cases that did not merit prosecution.

Fairness and justice. Protecting crime victims and protecting the rights of the accused. John applies these principles. It is about deciding what is fair and just, based on the facts, evidence, and law.

John is a longtime resident of Grant County, living in Quincy, Washington, since 1980. He was the elected Grant County prosecutor for 18 years, where he successfully prosecuted violent criminals, argued the Blakely case at the U.S. Supreme Court, establishing new precedent and procedures in sentencing both in the state of Washington and nationally, and served as the president of the Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys.

When John was prosecutor, and today as judge, I observed John every day meeting people, treating everyone with courtesy and respect. And always listening. John believes you learn so much from listening. John is not an ivory tower judge, but a judge for all the people, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, class, and/or gender. Most importantly, John is a judge that does not make law, he interprets the law.

John Knodell should be re-elected, because he is fair and smart, and has the experience and toughness to make the right call.
