Girl dies in wreck, man arrested

A 17-year-old Bridgeport girl died Saturday night from injuries sustained during the crash of a car in which she was the passenger.

Douglas County Sheriff deputies and rescue workers responded just after 6 p.m. to 17th Street in Bridgeport, where they found her trapped inside. Firefighters got her out and the ambulance crew took her to Three Rivers Hospital in Brewster where she was pronounced dead.

The driver, a 35-year-old Bridgeport man was contacted outside the vehicle, a sheriff’s office press release says. Christopher J. Williams was taken to the hospital to be checked for non-life-threatening injuries. Speed and intoxicants were contributing factors in the crash, a preliminary investigation found.

Williams was booked into Okanogan County Jail for vehicular homicide.

City extends business grant deadline

Coulee Dam businesses have until Nov. 25 to apply for a relief grant from the city for impacts due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The city council Monday awarded $10,000 to two businesses out of some $35,000 available. If not awarded, the rest will have to be relinquished back to federal coffers.
