Tonight, 13 Lake Roosevelt High School students will be inducted into the National Honor Society, joining 18 of their peers.

The students are being inducted tonight, Wednesday March 10, at 7 p.m., with some students to be present in the gym and some attending virtually.

Students can invite two guests each to the physical event, which will also be live streamed online.

The inductees this year are: Penelope Antoine, Ashley Baker, Camryn Carden, Chase Clark, Brit Egbert, Tanner Kiser, Landon Krohn, Elijah Rasmussen, Kawika Whalawista, Hunter Whitelaw, Tanner Whitelaw, Pyper Schmidt, and Aubrey Harris.

“Lake Roosevelt High School’s National Honor Society is a local chapter of a national organization,” National Honor Society Advisor Nicole Rasmussen explained to The Star in an email. “The four pillars of NHS are scholarship, service, leadership, and character. This is an academic honor that students earn their way into based on their [grade point average] beginning after their freshman year.”

Rasmussen said students must have at least a 3.3 GPA, and along with an application, they must also submit two letters of recommendation — one from a faculty member and one from a community member.

“Once inducted, members must maintain at least a 3.3 GPA, complete a service project with NHS, and complete an additional 8 hours of community service throughout the school year,” Rasmussen said. Community service requirements had to be adjusted for this year.

“Members also participate in fundraising, as we award two $500 scholarships each year,” she said. “This scholarship is called the Steve Breeze Memorial Scholarship.”
