Kennedy approved as new jr/sr high school principal

Sara Kennedy will be Lake Roosevelt Junior/Senior High School's new principal starting with the 2021-22 school year.

Kennedy, who has worked as the school's dean of students since 2019, was approved as the new principal at the May 10 Grand Coulee Dam School District board meeting.

After 40 minutes of the board being in executive session, and prior to the board's approval of Kennedy, Superintendent Paul Turner said, "I wholeheartedly recommend Sara Kennedy to take over the position. She's done great work for us over the years, knows the staff and students, and is raring to go."

Kennedy was also a teacher and instructional coach for 13 years before moving to the Grand Coulee Dam area.

"I am so excited for the opportunity to serve the students, families, and community as the principal at Lake Roosevelt High School," she told The Star in an email. "It's a privilege to be trusted with such a big responsibility, and I look forward to working hard to make every student's experience at LR a positive one."

Current Principal Kirk Marshlain's resignation, effective June 30, was accepted at the previous school board meeting in April after he accepted a position as special education director in Okanogan.
