No dam tours this year

Bureau working on plan for laser show, visitor center

Although there will be no tours of the Grand Coulee Dam this year, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation is working on a plan for the return of the Laser Light Show and for opening its visitor center.

USBR Public Affairs Specialist for the Columbia-Pacific Northwest Region Erika A. Lopez told The Star that tours will not be conducted this year at Grand Coulee Dam “because of CDC–recommended COVID-19 restrictions.”

“Visitors will be unable to safely maintain social distancing of six feet on the tour buses and dam elevator,” she said.

Lopez also said the USBR is working on a plan for the Laser Light Show to run and the visitor center to open.  She said a news release about that plan is expected sometime before Memorial Day.

She also said the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce has been receiving phone calls inquiring about the Grand Coulee Dam Laser Light Show.

“The health and safety of the public and our employees continues to be a top priority as we work through a decision in how we move forward,” she said.
