Track & Field competes with division, moves onto regional events
The Lake Roosevelt track and field team competed at the North Region Championships May 6 in Manson.
Three divisions within the North Central Washington region competed there — the North (LR’s region), Central, and South, for a combined total of 27 schools ranging in size from 1B to 4A.
“Our athletes really stepped up; competing against much larger schools didn’t seem to hold them back,” Head Coach Lori Adkins said.
Athletes qualified for the North Central Washington Regional Championship meet, coming up in Eastmont on Saturday, May 15, by finishing in the top three in their event, while those who did not qualify for the championship may compete on May 14 in the sub-regional meet in Wenatchee.
In Manson, Carly Neddo completed a personal record run in the short hurdle race with a time of 20.62 seconds, placing second and qualifying her for Saturday’s championship race.
She then threw a personal record in the javelin with a distance of 94 feet, 8 inches, placing third and moving on.
Sergio Galicia threw a personal record in the javelin with a distance of 132 feet, placing second, and qualifying for the championship meet.
Galicia also qualified in the shot put event.
“Sergio threw great in the shot put,” Adkins said. “With each put, he PR’d and landed on third place.”
“We’ll have to wait to see if his discus toss was enough to secure a wild card spot,” she added, explaining that seven wlld card spots will also qualify for the regional championship, coming from the next seven best times, distances, and heights from all three divisions.
“This is the case for other Raiders, as well,” she said. “We are waiting for results and hopeful for wildcard spots to open for others on the team who were so close.”
At the sub-regional event at Wenatchee High School at noon on May 14,“athletes have a chance to earn their best times and marks of the season,” Adkins explained. “This can actually help them secure better seed marks moving into next season.”
Saturday’s May 15 regional championship in Eastmont starts at 10 a.m.

Golfers at Okanogan
“It was a great day for golf up at Okanogan Valley, ideal weather and good competition,” Lake Roosevelt’s golf coach, Steve Files, said about the team’s May 5 meet.
“Daxton Whiteman was once again the medalist going undefeated in league play this season,” Files said about the young man’s 89 final score on the 18 holes. Whiteman defeated Okanogan’s Ryley Moore by only one stroke.
“Our players have displayed tremendous attitude and spirit all season,” Files said. “Golf can be very frustrating at times, but our guys always seem upbeat and optimistic. I’m especially proud of how much improvement our JV kids made this year in such a short period of time. We’re looking forward to the regional tournament next week.”
The regional tournament takes place on Thursday, May 13, at 10 a.m. at Lakeview Golf Course in Ephrata.
