Lady Raiders finish with no-hitters and home runs
The Lady Raiders softball team dominated this past week in the final five games of the season to finish with a 9-3 win-loss record.
In Oroville May 11, the Lady Raiders shut out the Lady Hornets 16-0 in the first game of a doubleheader.
Emma Marchand pitched a no-hitter and seven strikeouts.
"Marchand was too much on the mound for the young team in Oroville," Head Coach Jaci Gross said.
Offensively, Halle Albert and Sawyer Steffens each hit a homer during the game, Marchand had three singles, and Kiyra Terry contributed a single, as well.
"Solid hitting with dingers from Steffens and Albert!" Gross said about the game.
LR won the next game 21-1 in three innings, with Marchand pitching a no-hitter again with five strikeouts.
At bat, Marchand hit a single and a homerun, Albert had a single and a double, Kyona Edmo hit a pair of singles, and Nautika Brown and Payton Jake each had a single.
"Oroville's pitcher really struggled, giving us a lot of walks," Gross said. "We capitalized early with aggressive base running, scoring 10 runs in the first inning. Oroville was never really able to get around on Marchand."
In Pateros on May 13 for a doubleheader, the Lady Raiders continued their dominance.
LR won the first game 12-0, with Marchand pitching a perfect game with 11 strikeouts, no hits and no walks.
"Emma dominated on the mound, pitching a perfect game," Gross said.
At bat, Edmo hit a double and a homerun, and Marchand had a single and a homerun.
"We had several base running errors that I wish didn't happen," Gross said about the LR offense, "but at the end of the day, we came out on top. Kyona Edmo has really turned it up on her hitting, and that was fun to watch!"
LR won the second game 18-2, with Marchand pitching seven strikeouts, zero walks, and only one hit.
"Emma dominated the mound yet again," Gross said.
At bat, Halle Albert hit a single, triple, and a homerun. Edmo hit a triple, double, and single, Steffens had a triple, Audrey Hansen hit a single and a double, and Jake and Aspen Smith each hit a single.
"Halle Albert continues to make her mark with the bat, and I'm super proud of her," Gross said. "Kyona had three rips as well."
LR won their final game May 14 in Grand Coulee against Bridgeport with a final score of 15-0, with Marchand again pitching a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts, plus hitting a homer at bat.
Albert hit a single and a triple at the plate, Edmo had a single and double. Steffens, Nautika Brown, and Arianna Fosnaugh all hit singles.
"Great way to end the season," Gross said. "Our athletes grew at an incredible rate this year in terms of their overall skills. Considering we didn't get to see one pitch off of our pitching machine due to problems with power at the field, I'd say our growth at the plate was incredible. [Assistant Coach] Jeremy Crollard, and [Volunteer Coaches] Mike Steffens and Shane Marchand really stepped up and helped our program thrive. I'm very proud of all the girls and I am excited about our future."
Raiders baseball finishes strong
The Raider baseball team had strong wins in their last three games of the season to finish with a 6-9 win-loss record.
Hosting Omak in Coulee Dam in a doubleheader May 12, the Raiders won 15-0 in the first game, with eight of those runs coming in the second inning.
The Raiders won 11-4 in the second game.
Hosting Manson on May 15, the Raiders shut out the Trojans 22-0.
Golfers play at Lakeview Golf Course
Lake Roosevelt golfers competed at a regional golfing event in Ephrata at Lakeview Golf Course on May 13.
"It was a great regional event featuring competitors from all classifications throughout our Central Washington region," Head Coach Steve Files said, adding that he'd like to see it become an annual event.
Daxton Whiteman, whose final score is typically in the 80s, finished with a 92.
"Daxton didn't have his A game yesterday, but he got a chance to play in the featured group with quite a large gallery following for a high school event," Files said. "He dominated our league all season, and I couldn't be prouder of the way he represented our school."
Terek Bush was possibly the only eighth-grader on the course, finishing with a 111.
"He handled himself extremely well and gained some valuable experience," Files said.
Track in Wenatchee subregional, regional events
The Raider track and field team competed in the subregional meet in Wenatchee May 14 and at the regional championship event May 15.
The team "wrapped up a short season last weekend and came away with great results!," Head Coach Lori Adkins said. "Our team was so small and young this year. We still held our own and placed high in our region, competing against all sizes of schools."
About the regional championship event, Adkins said, "Coach Nancy Kuiper's throwers did exceptionally well," with two javelin throwers making it to the final round.
Sergio Galicia placed eighth in the javelin, with a personal-record throw of 136 feet, 1 inch on his first attempt.
Carly Neddo placed third with a PR throw of 106-7.
"All the Raiders competed admirably in our first real heat of the season," Adkins said. "We faced a couple hot days in Wenatchee."
