7/19 - Police responded to Burdin Boulevard on a report that a white pitbull had a fawn in its mouth. The reporting party told police that the dog dropped the fawn when approached and the fawn ran off. They were also told the dog was chasing a cat at 4 a.m. as well, and frequently gets out and causes problems. Police went to the house belonging to the dog owner. The dog was inside and growled at the officers from inside the house. Police were unable to contact the owner. The dog is unregistered with the city, according to city staff.
7/20 - A Honda Pilot side swiped a GMC Canyon in the hospital parking lot. The driver of the Honda said she had pulled into the parking space too wide, hitting the GMC. Police photographed the damage to the vehicles and the drivers exchanged insurance information.
- Shots were reportedly heard at the Osborn Bay gravel pit area. The reporting party mentioned a past Star article that explained it is illegal to shoot there, according to the US Bureau of Reclamation who owns the land, and also because of fire restrictions in place from the Bureau of Land Management that manages fires on USBR land. Police said their policy hasn’t changed and that people are allowed to shoot there.
7/21 - Two husky-type dogs were reported to have killed three chickens in their coop on Rowland Lane. The dogs were taken to a humane society in Moses Lake. They were untagged, thin, and tick ridden, according to police. The owner was eventually found and told the dogs were in Moses Lake. She was also mailed infractions for the dogs being unlicensed and for running at large.
- A driver backed his truck into an SUV in the Safeway parking lot. He said he just didn’t see it. Damage to the SUV was estimated at $1,500.
7/22 - Police responded to a report of a woman yelling and cursing at people at North Dam Park. The suspect told police she was living in her car and asked for assistance finding a place to live. Police suggested going to a larger city with more resources to help her. The woman wasn’t doing anything criminal, and police explained to the reporting party that, although it’s odd, the woman wasn’t breaking any laws.
- A woman was reportedly screaming outside the hospita,l then leaving in a Dodge Dart. She was found at Safeway. Police asked her if she had been screaming at the hospital and she said she was. She also said she could not pick up a car and that she had gone purple. When asked what that meant, she said it meant she was baptized by the Catholic Church. She was told not to return to the hospital unless she had a legitimate medical emergency.
7/24 - Police searched far and wide along SR-174 for a Toyota Tacoma flying a flag that had been reported as doing “burnouts” on E Street for a few days, but were unable to locate it, even going to Crown Point to see if they could see it.
- A woman reported people walking around her car while parked at Safeway. Police explained it was a parking lot and people were allowed to walk around there. The woman was found to be wanted on a warrant. She was arrested and taken to Okanogan County Jail. The woman had a cat in her car, and suggested that her sister take it. Police took the cat to the sister’s house.
- Someone reported to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation Security Control Center that someone was shooting at Washington Flats during a burn ban that prohibits shooting there. Police, joined by a Security Reaction Force sergeant, didn’t find anyone there.
7/26 - Police were asked to do a welfare check on a woman on Gold Avenue. Police said that due to House Bill 1310, they couldn’t do that. The woman who asked for the welfare check said she understood and would check herself later in the day.
- Extra patrols were requested at the Catholic church where there have been recent incidents of vandalism and theft.
- Police assisted Washington State Patrol by directing traffic on SR-155 near milepost 27.5, where a semi truck had a mechanical issue and was stuck on the road. Police and the driver called around to find a tow company with special equipment to tow the semi-truck and found one out of Spokane.
