We could all use a morale boost these days, and a little bit of kindness can go a long way.
Rachelle Haven, executive director of the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce, has started a project called Coulee Kind that encourages people to perform “random acts of kindness.”
“I started [Coulee Kind] because I had been hearing from business owners that they were struggling with morale within the community, whether it be employees, themselves, or customers,” Haven told The Star.
“I know a lot of people are home right now due to the delta variant and social media is being used more and more. So I found a kindness campaign for social media that can be used in the community safely. I personally have witnessed and been a recipient of random acts of kindness and know first hand how it can change my day. I felt like this may be a great way to give to the community and our businesses.”
One motto found at randomactsofkindness.org says to “make kindness the norm.”
“The mission of The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation is to make kindness the norm in our schools, workplaces, homes & communities,” their website says. “We work toward that goal by creating free content that promotes kindness toward others & teaches important social emotional learning skills to kids.”
A workbook found at grandcouleedam.org/events/coulee-kind, encourages people to perform different tasks, ranging from telling business owners that you appreciate them, buying people coffee, writing down what you are grateful for, volunteering, and much more.
Each task is worth between one and three “hearts” and the goal is to reach 60 and to share that with the chamber.
