Runners take in Wapato Point

The Lake Roosevelt Raiders cross country team ran five kilometers at Wapato Point in Manson on Saturday.

“I really enjoyed Manson’s cross country course,” Head Coach Matthew Timentwa said. “It’s right there on Lake Chelan so it’s got a beautiful view while running, which is not something you can say for every course. It’s also a pretty good opening course as far as terrain goes. It has a good mixture of flats and hills with some grass thrown in there as well.”

“I was proud of all of my runners that got to participate because all of them did a good job of improving on their 5k times that we got from practice this last week,” he continued. “All in all, I like to think of the first race as more of an assessment. It gives us a chance to see where we are in comparison to the other schools and I think we have a good chance to make some really good improvements over the year.

Freshman Noah Hunt was the fastest runner for the Raider boys, finishing the 5,000-meter race in 21 minutes, 31.23 seconds, placing 15th out of 45 runners.

Kailah Leadingham was the fastest runner of the Raider girls, finishing in 29:00.86 to place fifth out of nine runners.

The next cross country event is scheduled for this Saturday, Sept. 18 in Wenatchee at Walla Walla Point Park beginning at 12:10 p.m.
