Volleyballers on fire in season opener against ACH

The Lady Raiders volleyball team defeated Almira-Coulee-Hartline 3-1 in Coulee City Sept. 9. 

Lake Roosevelt played the first two sets “with absolute fire,” Head Coach Meagan Caudell said. 

The first set was won 25-9. 

“Audrey Hansen’s serves carried us through that set,” Caudell said. 

LR won the second set 25-19. 

The Lady Raiders lost the third set 25-21, then won the fourth 25-21. 

Player highlights include the work of Hansen, who had 10 kills for the evening. Aehsley Piturachsatit had 12 assists, and Shyanne Marchand had eight.

Carly Neddo, who had five kills for the night, “showed a lot of smarts during the game, placing the ball well,” Caudell said. 

“Emma Marchand led the team defensively with a total of 10 digs,” Caudell said, adding that “Audrey and Zalissa Sanfo did an amazing job blocking for us at the net.”

“Moving forward we have all agreed that working toward perfecting our service receive is so important, and making sure we have the motivation throughout the whole game that the girls brought to those first two [sets]. It is so fun to watch and coach these girls. They are great and I was really proud of them being able to finish like they did. They won that mental game.” 

A game scheduled for yesterday in Omak was canceled due to COVID-19 issues, a notice on the school’s athletic website reads, saying that “based upon results of testing from Tuesday, we will communicate a plan for continuing with high school volleyball.”

The Lady Raiders next game is currently scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 16 in Tonasket, starting at 6:30 p.m.
