Electric City Planning Commission wants citizens' ideas

Workshop set on comp plan, zoning and more

Electric City’s Planning Commission will hold a public workshop Thursday, October 28, at 6 p.m. at city hall or on Zoom (to be determined) to kick off a process to review and revise the city’s Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Code and other “implementing regulations,” the city said in a press release last week.

The workshop will give an overview of the update process, existing plans and regulations, and will solicit comments from the public on land use issues. Commissioners hope to build a a “docket” of potential amendments to review during 2022.

The city is required to plan under the state’s Growth Management Act (GMA and is limited to amending the comprehensive plan and development regulations once each year. The intent of the workshop is to establish a list of items to address for adoption in 2022.

Proposed changes may be identified by the city council, city staff, planning commission and/or the public.

Kurt Danison of Highlands Associates, the city’s contract planner, will facilitate the workshop and present an overview of the review process. Persons with proposed changes are encouraged to write or email the city with their concerns if unable to participate in the workshop.

The city wants its Comprehensive Plan and development regulations to accurately reflect the needs and desires of the community. As a local planning body, Planning Commission members rely on residents, business owners, and citizens to provide input as part of the process.

The existing comprehensive plan and zoning code are available for download on the City’s website: (https://www.electriccity.us/municipal-codes).

If you would like to discuss the updates and amendments, contact Mayor Diane Kohout is available to discuss updates and amendments at 509-631-1501, as is Danison, of Highlands Associates, at 509-322-4037.
