Incumbents in local positions appear to be keeping their seats as election results come in.
Although there will be more votes to count, including 1,300 Grant County ballots, 1,760 Okanogan ballots, plus those arriving by mail postmarked on or before Nov. 2, vote counts so far for local elections have been posted.
According to Grant County’s website, 25.35% of the county’s voters turned out.
In the race for Grand Coulee Council Position #1, Ben Hughes leads 74 votes to 39 over Tracey Wright, with there additionally being 29 write-in votes.
In the race for Grand Coulee Council Position #2, incumbent Tom Poplawski leads 99 votes to 34 over challenger Cameron Whitney.
In the race for Electric City Council Position #1, incumbent Donald Redfield leads 153 to 63 votes over Birdie Hensley.
In the race for Grand Coulee Dam School District Board Position #2 race, which spans multiple counties, incumbent Butch Stanger leads 405-261 against challenger Buffy Nicholson.
Stanger leads 221-140 in Grant County, 43-34 in Lincoln County, 110-58 in Okanogan County, and 31-29 in Douglas County.
In Okanogan County, an estimated 1,760 ballots were left to count, not including ballots that may still come in the mail postmarked on or before Nov. 2.
According to their website, in the race for Board Position #5 in the Nespelem School District, incumbent Nancy Armstrong-Montes leads 51-20 over challenger Val Vargas-Thomas.
Other positions up for election in the local area had candidates running unopposed, or in some instances, no candidates at all had filed.
Election results are certified on Nov. 23.
