Cross country competes at district

The Raider Cross Country teams competed in boys' and girls' district tournaments this past week.

At the Central Washington 2B League Championship and state qualifier event at the Okanogan Valley Golf Course Oct. 27, senior runner Colton Jackson placed 16th, just two spots shy of qualifying for state.

Jackson ran the 5,000-meter race in a time of 19 minutes and 40 seconds.

"I think they all gave an effort that they can be proud of," Head Coach Matthew Timentwa said.

The girls' state qualifier race took place Oct. 29 at Big Cross Golf Course in Pasco, where only the top seven finishers qualified for state.

Marteena Oflynn-Fulfer was the top runner, out of two, for LR, placing 25th with a time of 27:30, a personal record for her.

"The girls got a chance to run a new course that seemed especially tough, but they both gave it their all," Timentwa said. "I was happy to see Marteena Fulfer PR on Friday, she had an excellent week of practice leading up to the race, and I'm hoping that extra focus carries on into next year."

"Even with us missing state this year and facing stiff competition within our district," Timentwa continued, "I believe this team has a bright future ahead of it. Everyone made major strides this year when it comes to being runners, and I know what I need to work on to become a better coach for these kids."
