Wrestlers win second event in a row for LR

Raider wrestlers took the top team spot again at the Connell Invite on Dec. 11, just a week after winning the Davenport Tournament.

Lake Roosevelt garnered 195 points, with Connell coming in second best with 177.

"This tournament was a complete team effort," Head Coach Billy Monroe said in a Facebook post. "We ended up with 22 total pins by the team. Each pin scores us extra team points, which in the end was the difference in us winning as a team."

"The schedule gets harder from here so the message to the team is to stay hungry and get better every day," Monroe said.

Raiders who placed first include Rodgers Cate wrestling at 113 pounds, Colton Jackson at 126, Julian Lopez at 132, Teyton Flores at 152, and Sergio Galicia at 182.

Placing second were Bosten Hevener, wrestling at 152, and Landon Krohn at 170.

Francis Louie, at 145, and Christian Carson, at 160, each took third at their weights.

Other placers include Mathias Carson, who placed fourth at 113; Elijah Marchand, who placed fifth at 145; Terek Bush, sixth at 220; and Elijah Rasmussen, sixth at 285.

Kaylee Landeros and Arianna Waters competed in exhibition matches against girls from Royal and "picked up some valuable mat time," Monroe said.

The ladies also wrestled Dec. 7 in Quincy where they "wrestled tough," according to Monroe.

"Big thanks to Coach [Justus] Caudell, [Steve} Hood, and Jackson Louie for the time they put in this week to help our wrestlers," Monroe said. "Thank you parents for having the kids at the school at 5 a.m. and for driving to support our kids! This wrestling family is growing and getting stronger each week!"

Monroe told The Star that he is, "proud of how the team is doing so far this season. We need to keep getting better though if we want to have success in the postseason."

Next up, the Raiders have a mix-and-match event in Oroville today, Dec. 15, at 6:30 p.m.

Coming up, seven wrestlers will participate in a tri-state tournament in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho at North Idaho College Dec. 17-18 with a 10 a.m. start time.

The North Okanogan Holiday Invitational in Oroville is also scheduled for Dec. 18 with a 10 a.m. start time.
