Play auditions for student actors coming up

Young actors will have the chance to take the stage in a production of “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” to be performed this month.

An audition will be held for the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s production of play on March 14 at the Lake Roosevelt gym from 4 to 6 p.m.

First- through 12th-grade students are encouraged to audition.

Those auditioning should arrive at 3:30 and plan to stay for the full two-and-a-half hours, a notice from the theater group explains.

Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.

Among the roles to be cast are the Emperor; Many Penny and the Money Council; the Royal Scholars Roxy and Red; Kings, Queens; Gem and the Royal Jewelers; Boots and the Royal Cobblers; Lid and the Royal Hatters; Stitch and the Royal Tailors; and the Royal Silkworms.

“No advance preparation is necessary,” the notice reads.

Assistant Directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week and to take on essential backstage responsibilities.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre touring productions come complete with costumes, scenery, props, and makeup. MCT Tour actor/directors will conduct rehearsals throughout the week from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day.

The play will be presented on March 19 at 2 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. at the gym.

“The Missoula Children’s Theatre residency in Coulee Dam is brought to you by the [Grand Coulee Dam Parent Teacher Association] and Lake Roosevelt Schools with support from many area businesses,” the notice reads.

“Students interested in participating in The Emperor’s New Clothes must utilize appropriate masks per the K-12 COVID-19 Requirements for summer 2021 and the 2021-2022 School Year guidance issued by the Washington State Department of Health. Students who are not vaccinated are required to provide proof of a negative Covid test before they are allowed to audition. In addition to this initial testing requirement, they will also have to provide an additional negative test on 3/17/22. Students who are fully vaccinated will need to show proof of their vaccination status prior to auditions.”
