Raider baseball starts season with three wins, one loss

The Lake Roosevelt Raiders baseball team is off to a good start for the season with a 3-1 win-loss record so far.

The Raiders lost their season opener to Cascade High School March 22 at the Peshastin-Dryden Sports Complex with a final score of 6-5.

"We were ahead most of the game and they had a hit in the bottom of the seventh to score two runs to beat us," Head Coach Billy Nicholson said. "Everyone played well, we just didn't win."

The next day in Okanogan, the Raiders beat the Bulldogs 7-6.

The Raiders led most of the game, Nicholson explained.

Tanner Kiser started as pitcher, followed by James Kinsler, who pitched into the seventh when Brit Egbert took over. He ended the game with a strikeout for the save.

"Brit Egbert had two big doubles in the game," Nicholson said. "He did a really good job hitting, so did Kiser."

The Raiders then hosted Bridgeport March 26 in a doubleheader, winning both games without difficulty with a 22-0 final score in both games.

"Everyone did good," Nicholson said. "Egbert had a triple, the best hit of the day. Kiser hit well. Wyatt Egbert hit well. Everybody hit well. A lot of walks. The pitchers did a good job."

Bear Vargas started the first game, and Ivan Alejandra started the second game with Nicholson saying they both did well.

The Raiders were scheduled to host Brewster yesterday, results of which will be in next week's Star.

A doubleheader is scheduled at home in Coulee Dam with Manson on Friday, April 1, with the first game scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

Following that, a road game with Brewster is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12.
