Track and field provides strong competition with other schools

The Raiders track and field team competed in Tonasket and Peshastin last week. 

The team competed In Tonasket on April 26.

“Raeley Portch ran an exceptional 300-meter hurdle race, winning at 57.6 seconds,” Head Coach Lori Adkins said. “She is currently ranked fourth in District 6 in this event.”

The team then competed at the Reiki Invitational in Peshastin on April 29.

“The Raiders faced some of the same and some new competition at the Reike Invite,” Adkins said, explaining that there were four 1B schools, seven 2B schools and four 1A schools competing at the event.

“Our relay put together another nice race, bettering their time and placing sixth,” Adkins said about the 58.33 seconds finishing time of the 400-meter relay race completed by Jayd Johnson, Raeley Portch, Hope Harris and Carly Neddo.

The relay team is ranked fourth in District 6.

Adkins highlighted some other performances as well.

Neddo’s javelin throw of 94 feet, eight inches earned her second place, and she took third in the high jump, clearing four feet, four inches. Neddo is ranked eighth in the shotput and fourth in the high jump in District 6.

“Arianna Waters had a big throw, bettering her best in the discus,” Adkins said. “She placed seventh with a toss of 80 feet, 11 inches.” Waters is ranked fifth in discus. 

The Raiders are next scheduled to compete at the Vanderholm Invitational at Royal High School on May 6 at 3:30 p.m.
