Decisions to be made for sports facility plans

Where should a new gym be and where should the baseball field be?

Those are decisions coming up for the Grand Coulee Dam School District board of directors.

At their May 9 meeting, the group discussed with Superintendent Paul Turner, wanting to involve other people involved in athletics to find out what they’re preferences might be regarding what options they might prefer for placement of a new gym and for a baseball field.

Turner told the board they would need to give some more direction to NAC Architecture. Options include building a gym attached to a wing of the former high school or building a gym separate from that building.

They would also need to decide if they want to pursue building a baseball field in Grand Coulee at the former middle school or keep it in Coulee Dam. That could influence how a track might be built around the current football field and whether that football field might need to be moved over some distance to accommodate changes.

Those decisions can lead to more detailed drawings from NAC, Turner said, that being the next step in the process.

Funding is not yet secured for these projects, but a direction is still needed in case funding is found, Turner said.
