Raiders compete at league championship

Raider golfers will compete at a district tournament to qualify for state later this month.

On May 3, the Raider golf team competed at the Okanogan Valley Golf Course.

“The Raiders competed hard in our final league match of the season,” Head Coach Steve Files said. “Trevan Barnaby shot his low round of the season so far. He’s really been coming on strong as of late.”

Barnaby shot a 110 on the course.

Camryn Wendt and Terek Bush had the lowest scores for LR, both at 108, while Colton Jackson finished with a 112, and Aiden Palmanteer shot 134.

For the girls, Aehsley Piturachsatit and Penelope Antoine each shot 144.

A May 5 match between the Raiders and Omak at Banks Lake Golf Course was canceled due to rainy weather.

On May 9, the Raiders competed in the Central Washington B league championship at Alta Lake Golf Course in Pateros with golfers from Oroville, Okanogan, and Waterville.

There, Okanogan won the boys’ team title and Waterville won the girls’ team title.

Raiders who competed were, for the boys, Bush, who shot a 99; Wendt, 110; Jackson, 116; Barnaby, 130; Palmanteer, 138; and Joey Tynan, 129; and for the girls, Piturachsatit, 132; and Antoine, 140.

“This was the first time playing Alta Lake for our players,” Files said. “It is a pretty demanding course, but we competed hard and look to improve our scores next week at districts.  This will be the first time in over a decade that we have enough varsity boys to compete as a team at districts which is awesome. Hopefully we can keep our numbers up going forward and also field a complete girls’ team as well.

The same golfers will compete at the District 6 tournament which takes place on Monday, May 16 at 1 p.m., again at Alta Lake, with opponents from Oroville, Okanogan, Waterville-Mansfield, and Riverside-Christian schools.

From there, the top six boys and top five girls qualify for state.
