Ladies qualify for districts
Raider tennis competed at the Central Washington 2B league tournament in Omak on May 11, and May 14 where several Lady Raiders qualified for the district competition today.
In Omak, Amy Dorman won her matches in girls’ singles to qualify for districts.
The girls’ doubles teams of Kaylee Landeros and Riley Ayling and Terai Bob and Raeanna Joe won their matches to qualify for districts.
The boys’ season is done.
“Reese Hansen won two [matches] and lost two and was one match away from going to the next round,” Head Coach Billy Monroe said. “He gave it a good shot.”
Monroe spoke about the season as well.
“It was a great group of kids,” he said. “Honestly, I think for the future, there’s a handful of freshmen boys and girls that will be pretty good. The future is looking pretty good.”
That will be a future with a different head coach, however.
Monroe, who has been the head wrestling and tennis coach, as well as the dean of students at Lake Roosevelt Jr/Sr High School, has accepted the athletic director position in his hometown of Tonasket for next school year.
He said that he was torn about the decision, but added that he thinks the assistant coaches, Shane Moses for tennis and Justus Caudell for wrestling, are ready to be head coaches if they wanted to pursue those positions.
