Fire burns 102 acres off Peter Dan Road

Ambulance gets 11 calls on Fourth of July weekend

A 102-acre fire began and ended on Saturday in the Peter Dan Road area.

Local fire crews from the Grand Coulee Dam area, the Mt. Tolman Fire Center, and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation were assisted by Department of Natural Resources aircraft in extinguishing the fire, which was first reported at about 4 p.m. and declared contained around midnight.

No structures were lost in the fire.

Rick Paris, of Grand Coulee’s volunteer fire and ambulance department, said the blaze was human-caused and still under investigation, with Mt. Tolman doing the investigation.

Paris, the ambulance director for Grand Coulee, explained that for the weekend there had been one ambulance call on Friday, six on Saturday, zero on Sunday, and four on Monday, with only the one fire in the area.

The ambulance team responded twice to the casino in Coulee Dam around the time of the fireworks show on Monday.

Paris said the Fourth of July weekend was a busier year than the past two or three as far as the ambulance service goes, but quiet as far as fires go.
