Coulee Dam Police hosting National Night Out on Aug. 2

Police officers are a part of communities, and on Tuesday Aug. 2, Coulee Dam police officers will host an event with food, beverages, games, and activities to engage with the community.

The event will be held from 5-9 p.m., at Mead Park and along Mead Way in Coulee Dam, near Harvest Foods and the post office, and is appropriate for families and children of all ages, according to a flier for the event.

The event will celebrate National Night Out, "an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live," according to a website for the nationwide event.

"It's just for people to come out and meet us," Coulee Dam Police Chief Paul Bowden said at a 2019 National Night Out event. "Kids can see people in uniform so they're not afraid when that time comes in a situation."

At that event, there was a water balloon toss with participants wearing "drunk goggles" that simulate the impairing effects of alcohol, and people were able to look inside of fire trucks and police cars.

Bowden said they may also be used in a corn bag toss next week.

Mead Way from Fir Street to Sixth Street will be closed during the event.
