Resolve to lay down bridges, not walls, on 9/11

Letters from our readers

Religious factions which intrude on any government, or pursues the governance of its own nation is a rogue religion. 9/11 is a perfect example of how a religion can be used for its own ends. Let us consider that religion is a calling from God. Whether we acknowledge Him or not, He is our Creator, the Father of all peoples, and as such He has authority over all of us. Yet, it has never been His sovereign intention to force His will upon us, but for everyone to be given the freedom to choose. So that those who would answer His call should do so freely.

Not with ignorance, but with an understanding of His true nature. And not out of fear, but out of a love for Him, and a belief in Him. And not by works, or actions done out of a sense of duty, or obligation, but by grace. And not through gain, nor ambition, but through humility. And not for power over others, but for blessings unto others. And not to get revenge, or to avenge, but to forgive as we are forgiven.

We truly need to cease looking down on others, and to stop trying to change them. That is God’s territory, and we can be assured that He, as their Father, is working for their good. Instead, we need to turn our focus outward where God is, to seek Him out. And to search inward into our own souls in order to better ourselves, which in reality is the only way we can change how we see our surroundings. If we want this world to be a better place, we must first see it through God’s eyes. And remember when God looked upon all that He had made, He saw that it was good.

If anyone says to us that we should force God’s will onto others, we should not believe him. For God’s arms are open wide, and His eyes reflect a fathers love, not an enemie’s disdain. Indeed, as our Father, God wants His children to come to Him with sincere hearts by making up our own minds to answer His call, and to choose to live according to His purpose. And His purpose is that we should willingly live in love, peace, hope, kindness, mercy, grace, and faith as we give generously without constraint under the true understanding that not one person is above another.

So, as we commemorate the lives lost on September 11th, 2001, let us agree upon a resolution to lay down bridges, not walls; to build up, not to tear down; to be vessels of all that is good, not couriers of hate, which is evil; and to become disciples of God, the Way Jesus chose when He walked on earth; not to become like Barabbas the Zealot, who chose the way of condemnation, violence, and destruction.

I invite you to join us in an all-day vigil of prayer on Sunday 9/11 at the Catholic Church in Nespelem, or if you prefer, you can pray in your church or in your own home. Wherever you may be on that day, may we come together in the Spirit of God to pray for healing, and peace for the families of the 9/11 victims, and for God’s healing, and peace to spread all throughout the world. Now and forever, may the peace of our Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ be with all of you.

Sincerely,

Angel H. Clark-Hall
