Zion Lutheran Church is celebrating it’s 85thAnniversary on January 15, 2023 at 11:00 am. Our guest preacher for the celebration will be Rev Daniel Wurster who was the pastor at Zion from 1973-1976. We are also hoping that former pastors Ken Goodfellow and William Goodin will be in attendance to celebrate with us and bless us. We look forward to being a part of the community for many years to come sharing God’s Love in word and deed.
Lutheran pastors began visiting the Grand Coulee Dam community in 1933. Pastor Hugo Gurney was serving the Lutheran Church in Hartline and starting meeting with people in their homes, the old ice plant and the old Grand Coulee Elementary School. They secured property at the corner of Roosevelt Drive and Mead Ave in the Heights neighborhood in 1935 where they built and dedicated a church building on August 30, 1936 where our current grass parking lot is. They were organized and recognized as a Lutheran Congregation on October 4, 1937 with 30 baptized members. The current building was built in 1975 with the first church service on Oct 12 and the building was dedicated on July 6, 1976. Sunday School rooms were added in 1998 to complete our current structure.
