Police

1/10 - Two women were reported as appearing to try to break into a red car near Midway Avenue and Spokane Way. Police saw the vehicle but didn’t find anyone around it after searching the area.

1/11 - Police arrested a man at a motel on Spokane Way and took him to Reardan where he was transferred to a Spokane County Sheriff’s deputy who took him to jail in Spokane County. The man had been charged there with assault, harassment, and malicious mischief against his girlfriend earlier in the month at a hotel. Because he was in the motel in Grand Coulee with the same girlfriend, the officer felt it was best to arrest him as she could be in danger, despite an arrest warrant having not yet been generated for that case. The man was also wanted on arrest warrants out of Grant and Lincoln counties, but those jails were unable to take him due to booking restrictions. Police knocked on their motel room door. The girlfriend halfway opened the door, which the man was hiding behind. Police saw him and told him he was under arrest.

1/12 - Police responded to a report that came from a woman who called to report that she was being hit. Police went to an E Street residence where a man said his daughter and her girlfriend had been arguing but had left the home. Police were unable to investigate the alleged assault further.

- Police took possession of a backpack found in the North Dam area that someone turned in after having found it covered with snow. Police found no identification in the pack, just fishing gear. The only person at North Dam at the time said the pack wasn’t theirs.

1/13 - After a 911 dropped call, police eventually contacted the caller who explained she had been reporting that rocks had fallen in the roadway south of Steamboat Rock on SR-155, and that the call had dropped while she was explaining the situation. She was not in danger.

- Neighbors on Young Street both wish the other would leave them alone. A woman told police her neighbor had threatened to kill her dogs. The man said he hadn’t spoken to her in some time and seemed confused. Police told each of them separately how to file for protection orders. Police also told the woman they wouldn’t try to chase her cat “Miss Kitty” around and retrieve it for her. The man reportedly had been petting the cat earlier while it was on his property.

- About $1,200 worth of rough-cut lumber was stolen from behind the tavern on Main Street that was going to be used to build a patio area. Nearby security cameras hadn’t caught anything. Police checked out what was described as a “tweaker construction project” in the Delano area, but the lumber there didn’t match the description. Police said they would continue to keep an eye out for the lumber.

1/15 - A person who had fallen through the ice on Banks Lake about 2 p.m. had already made it to shore when police arrived at the request of rescuers.

1/8 - Police went to the bar in Electric City where two women had gotten into a fight. A woman in the bar said she had been fired from another bar in Grand Coulee previously, and the woman who fired her shoved her when they ran into each other at the bar in Electric City. She said she bit that woman’s finger in retaliation. Police noticed she had blood on her lip and was holding her ribs as if in pain. Police found the other woman at the bar in Grand Coulee. She said that the woman who bit her finger had started the fight, and that she wanted to press charges for it. Other patrons at the bar in Electric City said they didn’t see the fight.

- A couple at a Grand Avenue residence in Electric City told police that they had thrown things during an argument, including a book and a glass that broke. Police explained that throwing things like that in a house is considered by law to be malicious mischief and that they could face that charge.

1/9 - Police spoke to a couple who were arguing while drinking at their Fir Street residence. They agreed to keep away from each other for the night, and the man said he would sleep in his van in the driveway.

1/10 - Police spoke to a man on Park Avenue who reported about $2,000 worth of ice fishing gear stolen, including an ice shack, six fishing reels and rods, and other gear. He described the equipment in detail and told police he believes it is set up on the ice of Banks Lake. Police didn’t walk across the ice to look for the gear.

1/12 - A man and woman were reported as arguing outside a Holly Street residence where the woman was trying to get into a black van. Police couldn’t find them but learned from the reporting party that they had left already in separate vehicles.

- Police responded to a report of a “larger breed doodle”-type dog loose in the Spokane Avenue area. People in the area didn’t recognize the dog, which was released by police so it could find its way home and because it was friendly.

1/14 - Police had a vehicle towed that was parked illegally at the end of Walnut Street. It was described as being damaged and having a number of Twisted Tea alcoholic beverage bottles in the cupholders and around the floorboards. Neighbors in the area didn’t know whose car it was.

- Police responded to Banks Lake where a four-wheeler had fallen through the ice at Coulee Playland. Police observed that everyone was safe and that the Electric City Fire Department was towing the vehicle out of the water.
