Raider Rodger Cate was named an "Athlete of the Week" last Friday by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, which picks high school student athletes across all sports and school sizes in the state to honor each week.
And that was before he won the wrestling championship for WIAA's Region 2 at 106 pounds for 2B schools.
The award sponsored by Gesa Credit Union notes that Cate, a Colville tribal member, made history last year by winning the WIAA 1B/2B State title at 106 pounds in his freshman year, breaking a 50-year-old state record.
This year, he's won the Tonasket Apple Pie Tournament (at 106 pounds), Bavarian Invitational (113 pounds), Freeman H.S. Wrestling Tournament (113 pounds), and the 2022 Tri State in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho (113-pounds).
The recognition comes with a letter of recognition from the WIAA executive director, a certificate of achievement, and a $25 gift card to DICK'S Sporting Goods, courtesy of Gesa Credit Union.
