David Bazil James, 68, member of the Colville Confederated Tribes, Brother, Uncle, Story Teller and Friend to Everyone passed away at his Nespelem, Washington home Saturday, March 4, 2023.
David was born May 1, 1954 in Nespelem, Washington to Paul Joseph Sr. and Orcelle Evelyn Timentwa-James. He attended school at Nespelem Elementary and St. Mary's Mission in Omak, WA. Then as a member of the Yearbook staff and "Chiefs" Football team at Chemawa Indian School in Salem, Oregon, David graduated in 1974.
A baptized member of the Catholic Church, David had participated in the Mill Pond Parade, enjoyed Indian Dance, hunting, hiking, a good joke and opening his home to friend and stranger alike. His greatest joy was time spent with family, especially his adopted nieces.
Predeceased by both of his parents; siblings: Kenneth James, Rosemary Fields, Reginald Frank James, Jesse James, Robert Joe James, Kenneth Francis James, Aaron James, Peter Henry Jamnes and Paul James Jr .; David is survived by his siblings: Suzette Moore (Jim), Lewis "Skip" James and Jeannie Jackson; adopted siblings: Amelia Tatshama, Harlan Pellitzer, Cydell Sam and Adrian Sam and his beloved Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
On Wednesday March 8th, 2023 at 1:00pm, a family dressing was held for David at Strate Funeral Home in Grand Coulee, Washington. His Wake was at 7:00pm that evening at the Nespelem Long House. David's 10:00am funeral was held at the longhouse on Thursday, March 9th, 2023. Burial followed at the Catholic Cemetery in Nespelem, Washington.
