Two Lake Roosevelt educators recognized for excellence

Two Lake Roosevelt Schools workers were spotlighted at a recognition dinner earlier this month.

The North Central Educational Service District's annual Excellence Awards came out at their dinner April 17 in Tonasket.

Honored for excellence were Susan Duclos, who teaches in the Career Technical Education department, and paraprofessional Wendy Olbricht.

"Susan Duclos is a natural," said Steve Files, a fellow teacher who nominated her. "I have observed her eagerly leading her middle schoolers through crafting projects and outdoor experiences, and guiding juniors and seniors through the often-bewildering pathways to graduation and beyond.

"They are all drawn to her down-to-earth style, genuine empathy and tireless work ethic. Some educators just have a way with young people that's not forced or contrived, that impact kids in a positive way -Susan is one of those special people."

"Wendy is 100% about kids," said Lisa Lakin, the elementary principal. "She works consistently with kids and supports them while also holding them accountable. Each day is a brand new day for kids, in her eyes. She connects with all kids, especially the ones that can be the hardest to connect to. She will do anything you ask and always has a smile on her face.  She communicates well with both staff and students. She is most deserving of the Excellence in Education award.
