On the evening of Wednesday, June 7, 2023, Richard Thomas Skordas passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. His loving wife was by his side, fighting together until the very end. This was his eighth time battling cancer.
Richard was born in Rancho Cordova, California on May 10, 1966. He was the youngest of two children born to Tom Skordas and Kathy (Becker) Skordas. The Skordas family moved to Coulee Dam in 1967 where Richard grew up on Aspen Street and attended the local schools. He graduated from Lake Roosevelt High School with the Class of '84. He went on to earn a Business Degree from Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington.
Richard's passion was water skiing. The Skordas family spent many years on the water enjoying the sport. Richard held multiple state records in slalom during his youth. He also competed in trick skiing and jumping. He and his brother ran a water ski school at "Skordas Lake" outside Electric City, for many years.
Richard had a talent for automotive finance. He worked for many dealerships over the years including those in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, and eventually, Spokane, Washington. His final job was with Findlay Toyota in Spokane.
He met the love of his life, Meg Mason, in the fall of 2009. They were married on March 26, 2011, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. They welcomed their first daughter on October 3, 2012, followed by their second daughter on March 26, 2014.
Richard shared his dad's passion for Raider football. Like his father, he had an aptitude for home projects including building an amazing backyard that included a pergola, firepit, decks, outdoor kitchen, and winter hideaway. Hanging out in his backyard with his family was his absolute favorite place to be.
Richard is survived by his adoring wife of 12 years, Meg (Liberty Lake, WA) and their two amazing children: Ella and Olivia; his brother Rob (Nampa, ID) and his wife Paula and their two children: Daphne and Korbin. Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Kathy in 2016 and his father, Tom in 2020.
The family will hold a celebration of life for Richard on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at their home in Liberty Lake, Washington. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Richard's name to Cancer Care Northwest or Lymphoma & Leukemia Society.
The family extends a special thank you for the professional and loving care provided by Dr. Maury Blitman, his right hand, Dawn Renee, and all the wonderful nurses at Cancer Care Northwest involved with his treatment over the years.
