Archey William Price

2/25/1940 - 7/9/2023

Archey William Price died Sunday, July 9, 2023, from complications of vascular dementia. He was born February 25, 1940 in Grand Coulee, Washington, to Lavina (Everts) and William (Joseph) Price. He is preceded in death by his parents and his youngest son Joel.

He is survived by his wife, Sherrye (Seymour), son Brian (Scott) (Sheila), daughter Kelly (Mike Phelps), stepsons George, Jonathan and Grant (Jessie), loved by his grandchildren and blessed with two great-grandchildren.

Archey was an only child and a dedicated son, providing support in many ways to his family as he grew up.

He graduated from Grand Coulee High School and went on to Barber College becoming a beloved barber in the Grand Coulee Dam area.

Many years later, after he was long done barbering, he would exchange haircuts with a fellow Barber College graduate, keeping up his skills and his friendship.

Archey was by any definition a gentleman. He treated everyone with respect in public and in private. The manner he lived his life left lasting impacts on all, especially the many kids.

He gave everything he was to his family and community. Living in Grand Coulee he was Santa every Christmas Eve, volunteer firefighter/EMT, baseball coach and if you played basketball growing up he likely refereed one of your games.

He and his family moved to Spokane in 1979 where he spent the rest of his life.

Archey lived fully - kind, generous, never complained, providing subtle, life guidance, he loved his family with his big heart, involved in their lives, supporting, guiding, and being the best example of unconditional love. He worked every day to support his family and was a great dancer with a full dance card. His laugh was a smile maker. He could fix or make anything, electrical, plumbing, car repairs, gardening, anything, he could do it. He built the basement their trailer sat on, then finished it with bedrooms. Archey's creativity and talent were annually deployed in Santa's Workshop (his garage) and presented on Christmas morning, usually still smelling of that last minute coat of varnish.

In Spokane he loved working for East Valley School District which gave him the challenges of fixing critical components that kept the school running and the opportunities to enjoy the students. He would bend his 6'4" frame down to a grade school student to tease, help, coach or console.

In his final years, his wife Sherrye, her son Grant, and his family took loving care of him in their home.

The family asks for donations to dementia/Alzheimer's research in Archey's name at: act.alz.org/goto/archeyprice.

Memorial services will be held at 10am Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the Bethel AME Church 645 S Richard Allen Ct., Spokane, everyone is invited to attend. Celebration of Life will follow from 1-3pm at Holmberg Park, 720 W. Holland Ave, Country Homes, Wash.
