Free fishing poles for first 300 kids
If you've ever wanted to fish but don't really know how, now's your chance to fix that.
The Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area is offering "Fish Fest" this Saturday at Spring Canyon, and they'll be giving away free fishing poles to the first 300 kids 14 and under.
If you're ready to get "SCHOOL-ed in how to fish," as the National Park Service folks teased on Facebook, show up early during the 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. event to "to learn how to cast, reel, and tie knots."
At the free family friendly fishing festival, Lake Roosevelt will partner with other federal, state, and non-profit agencies sharing the same goal to teach local youth fishing skills and let them learn about water safety, aquatic invasive species, and more.
The event will also have games, activities, and crafts. And NPS will have help from a list of agencies and non-profits coming to help, including,
• Bureau of Reclamation
• Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation
• Lake Roosevelt Forum
• Reel Recreation
• Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife
• U.S. Forest Service - Colville National Forest
• Washington Invasive Species Council
• Washington Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers
• Northwest Power and Conservation Council
• National Park Foundation
• Northwest Regional Northern Pike Coordination Forum
