The Raiders dominated the visiting Vikings of Mabton Friday in a game that racked up yardage for the Lake Roosevelt offense and showed off strengths of several Raiders, including some off the bench.
LR prevailed 54-14, even after affording field time to less experienced players going into the second half up 40-0.
Before the first home game of the season Friday, the team and fans paid homage with a moment of silence for their former coach and mentor, Bubba Egbert, who died in a horse-related accident last spring.
His son, Wyatt Egbert, quarterbacked the game, completing seven of 12 passes for 137 yards and gaining another six yards in five carries - including a touchdown - plus another 23 yards on a reception from Anthony Smith.
"Our offensive line stepped up this week and gave our quarterback time to throw the ball, and that's what we've got to continue," Raider Head Coach Geary Oliver said.
Chase Marchand, Egbert's favorite target on the night, racked up 102 yards on receptions, plus another 59 on a long punt return, with three TDs included.
Freshman Terrell Bush added two touchdowns, rushing for 102 yards in five speedy carries, the longest at 54 yards.
In all, 11 Raiders gained 438 yards.
Defensively, 19 Raiders took down opponents in 37 tackles, led by Champ Louie and Elijah Broadnax with four apiece.
"Our kids on defense pursue really well," Oliver said. "They fly to the ball."
The Raiders head to Spangle Friday to face Liberty High's Lancers, who overcame Colfax last week in a 15-14 slog. Then they'll play with the Brewster Bears in Coulee Dam Sept. 29 in the second of three home games this season.
