News, views and advertising of the Grand Coulee Dam Area
Letters from our readers
Recently while visiting Cole Memorial Park in Coulee Dam, I noticed a few small decorations at the edge of the swimming pool, now a beach volleyball court, along with the following note:
"I tried to beautify this area of memories. I wanted to bring back the joyful laughter and energy that used to echo off the walls. It was a safe place for kids to splash and holler and play with their school friends during the heat of the summer. "Because of the lifeguard, it was a place kids walked to for active, social entertainment. It was a place for parents to feel at ease that their children were safe and having fun.
"I found the park-like decorations did not suffice. It only spoke of distant memories and loss. It seems it is easier to do nothing and turn away when it is inconvenient to do the right thing.
"I love the decorations, hoping someone will remember the beauty of the spot and the echo of excitement and splashing good times for a generation of canyon dwelling kids.
"What a shame there is no place children can walk to for a splash in the water, when they are surrounded by lakes and river."
Thank you to the person who left the decorations and the note. You have helped me to remember the fun times I had at the pool when I was a kid.
Kindest regards,
Barry Williams
