Birdie Hensley wants on the council again

Birdie Hensley is running for Electric City Council to find out what’s going on, and to fix some earlier mistakes.

“I just think if you’re in the community, you should be involved,” she said. “And if you’re not on city council, you don’t find anything out about the city.”

She’s been on council before, when the council made new rules on development requirements for curbs and sidewalks. That was during a time when the city annexed land with an eye on possible expansion to the south.

Now she sees that push had some unintended consequences, making it infeasible for a couple builders to develop small projects of just a few homes. She’d like to change that.

She also thinks the city could find a few more carrots instead of sticks to encourage people who are doing good things in town instead of fining them when they aren’t.

“Instead of picking on these guys, let’s kind of, if somebody does something, let’s try to reward them,” she said.

Hensley is skeptical of the city’s pathway project for practical reasons. She asks whose duty it will be to keep the new trail clear when the state snow plow throws snow on it from SR-155.

Hensley last served on the council in 2019.
