Raiders compete at Freeman tourney

Eight Raider wrestlers competed at the Freeman Winter Classic Dec. 30 in Rockford, Washington, where 17 teams from all school sizes met.

Francis Louie took fourth place at 150 pounds, pinning a wrestler from Deer Park and beating a Cheney grappler 12-5 in the quarterfinal round.

A Riverside wrestler pinned Louie in the semifinal, setting up the contest for third or fourth place, when he lost by fall to Shadle Park’s Tyrese Guzman, who took third.

At 113 pounds, Dillan Yazzie lost his first match to a Deer Park wrestler by pin but won his next three, two by pin and one by a 13-6 decision.

Kaden Christman (132) lost his first match to a Lewis and Clark wrestler but beat a Chelan athlete in a major decision 9-0, then pinned a Deer Park wrestler in 50 seconds. Okanogan’s Fran Eylar beat Christman 11-3.

At 144, Isaac Circle lost two matches to opponents from Deer Park and an Omak.

At 150, Colin Chaney pinned a U-Hi wrestler, got pinned by a Shadle Park foe, then again by a Post Falls athlete.

Andrew Cannon fell in his matches at 215 to Shadle Park and Post Falls athletes.

At 285, John Desautel got pinned by an Omak opponent, then pinned a Cashmere wrestler before falling to a Chewelah athlete.

Also at 285, Terek Bush got pinned twice by wrestlers from Cheney and Shadle Park.
