Three place in Okanogan tourney

In their last scheduled dual meet on their home mat Wednesday, Lake Roosevelt Raider boys outscored the Almira-Coulee-Hartline team 29-19 as several Raiders wrestled up in a weight class higher than their own.
"They dug deep tonight to win that match," said head Coach Casey Brewster. "I had guys wrestling up out of weight classes that came through ... Pretty much all our guys ... wrestled up."
Those included Zach Elwell, Kaden Christman, Jacoby Jackson, and Ike Circle, who looked very tired near the end of his second match of the night, just before he won it in the third round, 17-5.
"That's part of the sport, you get tired," Brewster said, "and whoever can do what they need to do when you're tired is gonna win the match. And that's what he did. ... He kept going."
Brewster noted the young team's youngest came through: two eighth-graders - Jacoby Jackson and Steffler - and freshman Christman each pinned their opponents, as did senior Francis Louie.
The home dual was a warmup for the Okanogan Invite on Saturday, Jan. 27, where seven Raiders competed, three of them placing, including Louie with a first place at 150 pounds after pinning three wrestlers and beating a fourth, 12-5.
Steffler took third at 106, and John Desautel took fourth at 215.
The Raiders finished 14th of 35 teams at the invitational.
They'll head to Omak Feb. 3 to take part in the CTL and CWB District Wrestling Tournament against 10 other teams. It starts at 10 a.m. Omak High School.
