Local firefighters fought a stubborn fire in a Delano home early Monday, with one person being taken from the scene by ambulance for treatment.
At approximately 1:47 a.m. Grand Coulee and Electric City fire departments were dispatched for the fire at 57928 Yakima Street NE in Delano.
The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation also responded for assistance and led fire ground operations, the Grand Coulee Volunteer Fire Department, stated on its Facebook Monday. The Grand Coulee Ambulance took one patient from the scene to Coulee Medical Center for treatment, they said, and Grand Coulee and Coulee Dam police also helped at the scene. Grant County PUD also responded to disconnect the power supply from the pole.
The fire was inside a small attic area and was difficult to manage, with smoke having filled the majority of the home. Fire crews worked aggressively to eliminate hot spots before clearing the scene at 6:55 a.m.
Then on Tuesday, Electric City and Grand Coulee firefighters were dispatched to Sunbanks Lake Resort for a reported outside fire at 2:47 p.m. but discovered an illegal burn pile.
“After arrival, firefighters found a large unattended pile of various yard type debris that appeared to have been burning for a long period of time,” Grand Coulee’s fire department shared on its Facebook. “Crews doused the smoldering pile, and coordinated with grounds keepers to spread around the fire and douse it again.”
Crews cleared the scene at 3:54 p.m.
