Five seniors at Lake Roosevelt High School are set to take a certified nursing assistant course this spring, thanks to a collaboration between the Colville Tribes, Coulee Medical Center and Wenatchee Valley College, the college stated in a release.
The WVC Nursing Program collaborated with the tribes’ Continuing Education department to offer the CNA course in Grand Coulee from April to May.
The course, which filled quickly, was extended to Lake Roosevelt High School seniors and community members, the college said. Financial support was made available through contributions from Colville Tribes Employment & Training (Laketha Jordan and team) and Coulee Medical Center.
The students will meet in a classroom, lab, and clinical training facilities at Coulee Medical Center.
“Two dedicated nurses who have volunteered to serve the Grand Coulee community will provide instruction,” the release stated.
“Special recognition is due to Tex Prewitt, Lake Roosevelt High School Counselor, for his unwavering commitment to providing this opportunity to high school students,” said Dr. Jenny Freese, nursing program director at WVC. “This initiative reflects a collective endeavor and spirit of collaboration.”
Freese also extended thanks to Erin Davidson, Stacey Menley, Imelda Barragan, Kim Charlton, Karen Nodolf and Tina Avey for helping launch the course.
Lake Roosevelt seniors enrolled in the course are Lanay Chuckulnaskit, Shayanne Marchand, Martina O’Flynn Fulfer, Kaliah Tonasket, and Brenna Morrill.
