Olympia, Washington - James Marion Glick, Jr., of Olympia, Washington, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2024, at the age of 85. Born to Martha and James M. Glick Sr. in Deerfield, Kansas, Jim was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Myra Glick, two sisters Liz Marcolin and Fran Hove, children James M. Glick III, Lorena and Doug Talley, Richard and Erin Glick, grandchildren Andy, Lisa, Jessi, Rachel, Staci, Amy, Melissa, Carly, Kendra, Cadence, Corie, Kacie, and great-grandchild Greycen.
He graduated from Grand Coulee High School and furthered his education at Eastern Washington University. It was during his time in Cheney, that he met the love of his life, Myra. They were united in marriage on December 27, 1959, in Spokane.
A passionate educator, Jim taught in Almira and Odessa, leaving a lasting impact by writing state health curriculum still used by students across the state today. Outside of work, Jim cherished hunting, fishing, flying, and gardening, but above all, he treasured spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Jim served his country with dedication in the Air National Guard from 1957 to 1989, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He served as a troop mobility officer for the 141st Air Refueling Wing at Fairchild AFB.
A man of unwavering faith, Jim found solace in daily scripture readings. In retirement, Jim and Myra embarked on new adventures, raising Emus and founding Backachers, and spending weekends at the Olympia farmer's market.
Jim was deeply committed to conservation efforts and was a cherished member of Ducks Unlimited, dedicating himself to wetland and waterfowl preservation.
A service to celebrate Jim's life will be held on May 4, 2024, at 2 pm at the Lacey Community Center.
