Cars must be off the street from early morning to evening
Pavement maintenance and road repair jobs will mean detours and parking restrictions over the next six weeks in Coulee Dam, Grand Coulee and Electric City.
The $1.9 million project, funded entirely by a state grant from the Transportation Improvement Board, or TIB, begins on Monday, Aug. 12. The contractor has 30 working days – until the end of September – to substantially complete the job.
The exact order of which street segments get completed when was not available by press time, but Granite Construction Company will have multiple crews working in all three cities, according to Marissa Siemens, the project engineer with TD&H Engineering.
Drivers can expect detours, roads temporarily narrowed to one lane, as well as street parking restrictions on impacted segments, between the hours of 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., according to Siemens.
The town of Coulee Dam is the lead agency, but the three towns essentially combined their projects into one regional application in order to attract a more generous funding package.
The bids came in about 50% higher than the engineer’s estimate, Siemens said, but the state TIB adjusted the grant in order to cover the full cost of the project.
After the chip seal, residents should drive slowly and avoid sharp turns for 48 hours after the cheap seal is applied to avoid kicking up chips and asphalt and to prevent asphalt from getting on the finish of your car. Bicyclists and motorcyclists should use additional caution.
