Nicholson gains school board seat

The Grand Coulee Dam School District board unanimously appointed Buffy Nicholson Monday night to the seat left vacant when Deidre Ellsworth resigned in June.

Ellsworth herself had been appointed just last November when Ken Stanger stepped down from the position.

Nicholson, like Ellsworth a tribal member, and employee of Colville Confederated Tribes, will be sworn in by the next school board meeting.

"I have 16 years experience in the child welfare field and have worked with at-risk youth in our communities," Nicholson wrote in her letter of interest. "My experience can help bridge gaps between the Tribe and State services our children need. I look forward to advocating for our children with our Lake Roosevelt board."
