Raider sports roundup

Soccer

The Lady Raiders earned a win Saturday, when they beat the Warden team, there, 4-2. Forward Shae Crollard scored two goals, Nautika Brown added another, and set piece specialist Phenyx Marchand converted a penalty for another.

Halle Picard "showcased her versatility," Coach Solveig Chaffee noted, by playing both ends of the field in stints as a forward and at center back.

The win was sandwiched by losses earlier and later in the week.

Lake Roosevelt fell to Reardan 5-1 Thursday, Sept 19, with their one goal coming off another "crafty" set piece by Marchand. They trekked all the way to Colville Sept. 24 to suffer less badly with a 3-1 loss but a "much improved defensive effort," Chaffee said, attributing the growth to "leadership provided by 8th-grader Paisley Fury-Smith at center back where her tremendous work rate has earned her every start this season as well as playing every minute to date."

The goal was sent in by senior Captain Nautika Brown off a free kick, perfectly placed by Alli Bowles, Chaffee said.

LR lost last night at home to Okanogan, 6-0 in a long match.

Football

The Raiders could taste a win Saturday, until the Pe Ell/Willapa Valley Vikings sent it into overtime.

"We were competitive," Coach Geary Oliver said.

Playing in Ellensburg, the teams were tied at 28 in double overtime, Oliver said.

It was the Raiders' highest score of the season and almost a win.

The Raiders just couldn't control the disciplined Pe Ell team's rushing game, Oliver said.

Running Back Terrell Bush rushed for 153 yards in 12 carries, including a TD.

Ivan Alejandre added two touchdowns rushing and Anthony Smith one on a reception.

In the end, the Vikings got a TD in overtime for their 34-28 win.

Volleyball

LR volleyballers went 0 for 3 thrice this week.

They lost matches by that same score to Wilbur-Creston-Keller, at home Sept 24; to Liberty Bell Sept. 26, there, Sept. 26; then to Omak, in Omak, Oct. 1.

The Lady Raiders will host the Cascade Kodiaks (Leavenworth) Thursday at 6:30, then Okanogan on Tuesday.

Cross Country

LR's cross country runners competed in Leavenworth Invitational Saturday on the 2.8 mile varsity course.

On the boys' side, Caden Portch, did it 17:15.7 for 17th place out of 149. Dillan Yazzie finished in 19:05.1 for 81st.

Nelly Selam lead the LR girls with a 26:39.8 finish, with Chantelle Pakootas following by 8.6 seconds. Vera Bigwolf did in 34:16.7.
