10/23 - A GMC Sierra towing a boat struck a deer near the entrance to SunBanks Lake Resort on SR-155. The driver estimated his speed upon impact to have been about 40 miles per hour. Police took photos of damage to the front of the truck and noted coolant leaking from the radiator area. The deer was shot by police as it was clear it wasn’t going to live through the night.
- While heading north on SR-155 out of Electric City, police saw a cloud of dust in the air caused by a Jeep attempting to get out of gravel on the side of the road near milepost 25. The vehicle had apparently struck the guardrail. An officer approached the vehicle and could smell alcohol. He asked the driver to put the vehicle in park. She told the officer that she and her passenger had just left the tavern in Electric City. The officer recognized the passenger as a mechanic and allowed for his friend to come tow the vehicle. The “steering control linkage” had snapped when the vehicle hit the guardrail, rendering it unable to be driven. The passenger’s door was up against the guardrail, so he had to climb over the center console to exit the driver’s side of the car. The driver was cited for driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of about 0.16, twice the legal limit of 0.08.
10/24 - Police received a call about a stolen purse on Birch Street, but then received a call from the woman who had reported it. She had found the purse in her vehicle, so police were no longer needed.
