Winona Winn "Wendi" Simons, beloved friend and family member, passed away peacefully at her home in Coulee Dam, WA, on November 12, 2023, at the age of 54 due to heart failure. Born in Spokane, WA, on August 9, 1969, Wendi was the cherished daughter of Karen Simons. She grew up in the Coulee Dam area, graduating from Lake Roosevelt High School in 1988.
With a dream of a career in broadcasting, Wendi moved to Spokane to attend Bailie School of Broadcast, where she graduated and began her career as a radio announcer in Brush, CO. Missing her hometown community, she returned to Coulee Dam to take on her dream job as a 911 operator with the Colville Confederated Tribes. A lifelong Cubs fan and sports enthusiast, Wendi loved following all kinds of sports and was happiest watching a game. She was an avid fan of movies, especially horror films, and spent countless nights immersed in thrilling stories on the screen. Music was a constant companion, with George Strait being a particular favorite. She was a devoted reader, often surrounded by books and magazines, and traveled whenever she could. Her trip to Egypt was a treasured highlight, leaving her with memories she would always cherish.
Above all, Wendi had a heart for animals. She was a dedicated rescuer, providing countless animals with a loving home and endless affection. Her compassion extended beyond family and friends, reaching every creature she could help.
Wendi is predeceased by her mother, Karen Simons; grandparents, Don and Peg Hope; grandfather, Harry J. Simons of Poplar, MT; and her beloved aunt and uncle, Gayle and Erby Kenerson.
