Support our community by supporting its schools

Letters from our readers

If you’re on your way to work this week and see your neighbor’s kids heading to the bus stop or if you come across a Facebook post by grandparents celebrating their grandkids after a game, you understand that the Grand Coulee Dam School District directly contributes to our feeling of community. We feel it at games. We feel it at graduation ceremonies. We feel it when we take pictures of our kids in formal outfits before Prom. When I first moved here (don’t ask how long ago), I was struck by how close the community is and I immediately saw that the schools are a big part of that. That wasn’t something I had before I transferred to Lake Roosevelt.

Let’s support our community by supporting its schools. As we all gear up for 2025, please keep a few dates in mind. The first date is January 8th. There will be a meeting of the Yes Committee in support of the replacement school levy at 3:45 PM in room C105 at Lake Roosevelt Jr/Sr High. There will also be a Levy Town Hall Meeting at the school on January 30th at 6 PM. At this Town Hall, the community can get information about the replacement levy and have any questions answered. The vote for the replacement levy will be on February 11th. Ballot boxes close at 8 PM.

It’s important to understand that this is not any kind of “new tax,” but just a continuation of the funding the schools have been getting through the previous levy — which is set to expire soon. So if you think the work the schools do through its various education programs to meet diverse needs of students, Career and Technical Education to help prepare students for trades, and supporting our student-athletes is important, then show your support for local schools on February 11th!

If you would like to be involved with the Yes Committee’s effort but can’t make the meeting, please email me at josephtynan3@gmail.com. Hope to see you there!

Thank you,

Joe Tynan

Yes Committee
